Established in 2015 by Mama Zandile Gumede, a prolific leader and a mother figure to many; Mama Zandile Gumede was born and bred in iNanda (northern township of Durban, South Africa), she has served the community of Durban in many leadership roles that have advanced her love and passion for development and empowerment of women and youth in particular. Light of Ubuntu (NPC) is a community based organization established on humanitarian principles to serve and support the people of South Africa, particularly those who were previously disadvantaged and affected by unemployment, crime, and many other social ills.

In response to the worsening vulnerability of South African communities, the Patron, Mama Zandile Gumede seeks partners with humanity investment drive, private sectors and professional personalities to provide support to communities, families and individuals in need of care. Light of Ubuntu NPC is a non-profit company registered in terms of the provisions of the South African Companies Act and its operations are thus subject to the laws, regulations and rules of that act and the Memorandum of Incorporation of the company.

The organisation stands for protection and empowerment of all citizens, particularly women and young people, giving them hope and strengthening their capacity to be the best that they can be. We believe in the inherent potential in human beings that we ensure effective delivery of education and social services as vehicles of social change. Our community development approach aims at addressing historical imbalances through collective empowerment.
